Consistent service, reliable

I've been using Xero for years, moving from their Starter to Growing plan as my business expanded. This last upgrade for more payroll features was as smooth as previous ones. The interface hasn't changed drastically, which is nice for consistency, and the Bank Feeds are always reliable. It's why I keep coming back; no surprises, just solid accounting software that does what it says it will. A dependable tool for my business.

Good for my business

I tried out the Xero Starter plan for my new online shop. It was pretty straightforward to get going. Bank reconciliation was way easier than I thought it would be, and tracking expenses felt simple. Had a small question about linking to my online store but found the answer in their help section quickly enough. Overall, a solid experience.

Great value for a new business

As a first-time business owner, I was really looking for something affordable but powerful. I snagged the new business discount for Xero, which gave me 75% off for six months. That's a huge saving for a startup budget! Setting up my online invoicing was a breeze, and I love that I can track everything from one dashboard. It feels like I'm getting a premium service without the premium price tag. Totally worth it.

Quick setup, easy invoicing

Signed up for Xero. Got the trial. Set up invoicing. It was very easy. Bank feeds connected fast. Good for basic needs. Will likely continue subscription.

Mostly good, minor issue

I switched to Xero from QuickBooks, primarily for the Multi-currency Accounting feature, which has been excellent for my international clients. The setup process was fairly smooth, and the interface is much cleaner. I did notice that the Xero Me app could use a bit of polish; it's functional but sometimes a little slow to load. Customer support was responsive when I had a question about migrating some old data. Good value overall, just hoping the mobile app gets an update soon.

So easy to use!

I just signed up for Xero's established plan and it's fantastic! The interface is so clean and intuitive, I had my bank feeds connected and invoicing set up in no time. Everything just works, and it makes managing my small business finances so much less of a headache. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for great accounting software, and I'll be back for sure when I need to add more features!

Thinking of moving my small business from Excel sheets to Xero. Mainly need invoicing, expense tracking, and bank reconciliation. Is the Starter plan enough, or should I go for something bigger like Growing?

C CoolBoy88 2 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Starter plan has limits on invoices and bank recs per month. If you're doing more than 20 invoices, it'll be a headache. I'd lean towards Growing if you're serious about scaling.

Oh, didn't realize there were invoice limits. That's good to know.

M MaxPower 2 weeks ago
Yeah, Starter is really for super tiny operations. Growing is the sweet spot for most small businesses.

I started on Starter and quickly upgraded. The bank reconciliation limit was the killer for me. Plus, you get Hubdoc with Growing which is super helpful for receipts.

Does Hubdoc come with all Growing plans? Or is it an add-on?

T TechFreak 2 weeks ago
Hubdoc is a lifesaver. Definitely makes expense tracking way easier.

You can always do the 30-day free trial on Starter and see how fast you hit the limits. No harm in trying it out first.

Good idea. I'll give that a shot before committing.

Trying to decide between Xero and FreshBooks. Anyone used both and have a preference for a small creative biz?

B Ben 1 month ago
Xero feels more robust for actual accounting, especially if you have inventory or need detailed reporting. FreshBooks is simpler for just invoicing.

C Carly S. 1 month ago
For a creative biz, FreshBooks might feel more intuitive for project tracking and proposals. Xero is great too, but maybe a bit more traditional accounting focused.

Is payroll included in all plans or is that an extra cost? Just trying to figure out the total monthly cost.

S Steve Ito 2 months ago
Payroll is an add-on, not standard in every plan. You usually pay extra for it.
3
T Tara Romero 2 months ago
Depends on the plan. Some higher-tier ones might include it or have it cheaper, but for the basic ones, it's usually separate.

Just got hit with the Xero renewal. Price jumped quite a bit from my introductory offer. Anyone else seeing this, or did I miss something?

A Anjali 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Maybe consider the annual plan? It usually works out cheaper than monthly, even at full price. That's what I switched to.

Good shout, I'll check the annual pricing. Thanks!

Yeah, same here. My 50% off for 3 months ended and it went to full price. Kinda expected it but still stings a bit.

Did you try contacting support about it? Sometimes they offer something if you ask.

I moved from QuickBooks last year and got a deal, but that also ended. They don't really have ongoing discounts for existing users unless you're an accountant partner.

D Deepak91 1 month ago
I heard about a non-profit discount, but that's specific.

Does Xero have a free trial? Don't wanna commit if it's not gonna work for my business.

C Colin 2 months ago
Yeah, pretty sure they have a 30-day free trial. Enough time to kick the tires.

Thinking of switching from QuickBooks to Xero. Any discount for that, or do I just get the regular new customer deal?

A Anna H. 2 months ago
I think they do have something for people moving over. Worth checking their site, might be a specific offer.
1
F Faith G. 2 months ago
Nah, from what I've seen it's usually just the standard new customer intro offer, like 50% off for a few months. No special 'switch from QB' code usually.

I started with the cheapest and upgraded after a few months. No hassle at all, it's pretty seamless.

how long do those intro discounts last for? Like the 50% off thing.

D Dan 1 month ago
Usually 3 or 6 months, then it goes to the full price. Make sure to check the fine print when you sign up.

T Troy Carter 1 month ago
Mine was 6 months at half price. It's a good deal to get started.
